Udaan & Samriddhi with La Farge

Socio-economic empowerment of poor and underprivileged women and youth by providing alternate livelihood opportunities and skill based Training program – A Lafarge initiative

The incidences of industrialist and corporate houses to come forward for building nations and its socio economic development are no longer a myth. The ability to make a significant difference in the society and improve the overall quality of life has clearly been proven by the corporate. Shamayita Math also has a valuable partnership with many corporate houses to bring a sustainable change in the community where they work.

One such initiative for livelihood development is financially supported by Lafarge India Private Limited. Currently 23 villages from 3 Panchayats are under this project. The project activity is divided under three broad categories:

  1. Udaan: Skill building programme: Many local youths are being imparted training on some potential trades by which they can either set up their own enterprise or else they can be meaningfully engaged in a locally established unit. This year training on 20 local young women are getting training on ‘Beautician’ course and 20 local youth are getting training on ‘Two wheeler repairing’
  2. Samriddhi: Local SHG women have got training on ‘Mushroom’ and ‘Kitchen garden’ activity. They have got financial support to start these activities and got good production both for their home consumption as well as economic return from the market. Mushroom production activity has reached a great height as it could yield high income through proper marketing support from the project.
  3. New Initiative: This year ‘Goat rearing activity’ among 10 SHGs has been started and expected to realise the benefit within 2 years. Improved paddy cultivation is also a new initiative among the individual farmers. Farmers were convinced on the idea of new techniques of cultivation through regular meeting. Around 40 farmers have adapted our theory of ‘Improved paddy’. They followed the entire process of cultivation prescribed by our experts and significantly influenced to carry forward the same process for their entire paddy cultivation to have assured and enhanced production.

Social security component: Beneficiaries who will be able to improve their livelihood are planned to have linked with different social security schemes provided by Government of India. Schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojona (PMJDY), Atal Pension Yojona (APY), and different insurance schemes are to be linked with.
